Summertime in Costa Rica

People are often surprised when they arrive at our Bed and Breakfast in Playa Langosta at this time of year.  Being a tropical country, many people imagine that Costa Rica is lush and green year round.  But in reality, it can get quite dry here and many of our trees actually go dormant in summer and then become green again in winter.

But while summertime here in Guanacaste may mean less green, it is also almost always guaranteed that we'll have blue skies, sunshine and warm days.  We hope you'll come visit during both our seasons and appreciate the beautiful differences that they both offer.

Take a Catamaran Tour During Your Vacation in Tamarindo

One of the many activities that our guests at Sueno del Mar Bed and Breakfast enjoy is sailing on the Pacific Ocean on a catamaran tour.  There are several local catamarans in the Tamarindo Bay and they offer both morning and afternoon sailing trips.  Whichever tour you choose, you'll enjoy good food and drinks throughout the trip as well as snorkeling amongst Costa Rica's volcanic coastline.

During the afternoon sailing trips, you'll also get to enjoy the beauty of the Costa Rican sunset and the first stars lighting up the night sky.

Semana Santa in Costa Rica

This week starts Semana Santa here in Costa Rica!  Semana Santa is a week of celebration with family and friends and many Costa Ricans are going to the beach to enjoy the warm summertime weather.  We are almost always guaranteed sunshine and blue skies!

Semana Santa is a holy week in the Catholic religion and always ends on Easter Sunday.  Parades, festivals and religious ceremonies take place throughout the week.  Some towns will take the old style (but very colorful) ox carts, place statues of the saints in them and take them to the local church.  Many businesses and government offices close for at least the last part of the week.  It is also often times the same week as Spring Break in the United States and as such, we look forward to seeing all of our guests this week as they enjoy a relaxing week of fun and festivities.

Guanabana (soursop) fruit from Costa Rica

The guanabana fruit is one of the most delicious tropical treats you can find here in Costa Rica.    Guanabana fruits are easily recognized in local markets because they are shaped like a heart, green with a spiny skin and inside is a white creamy pulp with black seeds.  The pulp can be a little sour (hence why it's called soursop in English) but with a little sweetener, it tastes delicious.

This fruit contain special organic compounds called annonaceous acetogenins, which researchers say can target and kill cancer cells.  These studies have confirmed the anti-tumor, anti-parasitic, insecticidal, and anti-microbial activities of soursop, which indigenous people discovered centuries ago!

At our Langosta Bed and Breakfast, we serve guanabana juice at least two times per week.  Lily and Victor make the most exquisite fresco (fresh) juices.  Nothing better than this fruit to start your day!

Casita Osita's Outdoor Patio at Sueno del Mar

Casita Osita's Outdoor Patio at Sueno del Mar is a beautiful place to relax and read a book or a magazine before going out to dinner in Playa Tamarindo.  It has a comfortable two person hammock that allows you to take a relaxing nap with the quiet sound of the breeze in the trees, the birds and the crashing ocean waves nearby.
