What a Howler monkey eats?

At our B&B we have are very fortunate as we often have a family of Howler Monkeys close to the hotel.

They live in the treetops of the big Guanacaste trees that we have on our property.  The monkeys are able find food all year around our boutique hotel.  The diet of a Howler Monkey consist mainly out of leaves and some times some fruit.  We have several trees around our property that are green all year around.  The one leave they probably like the best is the leave of the Papaya tree.  We enjoy growing some of our favorite fruits here at the B&B but the monkeys often get to the plants before they have fruits.  We have tried to plant the trees at many different places but they always seem to find a way to get to them!

Carrie Testimony:

Oliver and I just wanted to thank everyone for making our wedding an amazing event!  We really could not have imagined a better day or week with our family and friends and the setting at Sueño del Mar was just what we had pictured for our big day.  We truly enjoyed every moment there and I know our family's did as well, my mother cannot stop talking about how amazing everything was. We are already talking about renting it out again for our 5 year anniversary :)

8 Eco-Friendly Ways to Travel
Traveling can be hard for the eco-friendly who knows how human methods of travel and consumption have hurt our earth. Thankfully, there are ways to minimize your energy usage while on vacation. Here are eight tips to help you do just that.
1. Choose an eco-friendly destination. If you can, take a trip to a national park or beach, where donations support their mission of keeping the land healthy and open to all.
2. Decide how you're getting there. Public transportation, like trains or buses, are better for the environment because they can carry the largest number of people at once with the least impact on the planet.
3. Plan ahead for thirst. Travelers rarely carry their own mug for water, but you can carry your own reusable water bottle so you'll never be without and save a lot of bottles from being thrown out. If you don't already have a metal or glass water bottle, reuse the plastic water bottle that you purchased at the start of your trip. Be sure to wash it out every few refills, as mildew can collect near the mouth of the bottle and be difficult to remove.
4. Pack lightly. Travel-size shampoos and toothpastes are wasteful because they require extra packaging. Many of the items, including the ones you use at home, are under the three-ounce limit that the airlines mandate if you're carrying on luggage. If you're traveling to a friend's home or a hotel, they will have many toiletries available for you. If you must bring your own items, try putting them in refillable bottles.
5. Power down. Unless anyone will be home while you're away, this is a good time to unplug whatever appliances that don't need to run while you're gone. Appliances with LEDs or lights that run even when the device is off suck in power. You can stop that by putting all of your appliances on a power strip and shutting it off. If you don't have a power strip, just unplug the appliance from the wall.
6. Stay in a green hotel. Many inns have a "green" housekeeping option, which means that maids won't change your sheets or towels everyday.
7. Only travel to one destination. It might be nice to visit a lot of nearby cities, but you will reduce your carbon footprint by keeping your travel in one city. Get around the city by public transportation, on foot or using a hotel shuttle service.
8. Avoid buying goods that won't last. For instance, while it might be nice to sit in a coffee shop and read a newspaper, you'll just end up throwing it out when you're done, especially if there aren't any recycling facilities nearby. You can buy a paper and share it with your family or give it to another patron when you're done.
The same rule applies to souvenirs. The best souvenirs in my family are pictures of the places we've been, rather than cheap plastic figurines that we'll eventually throw away. You also can avoid unnecessary waste by eating in rather than out, sharing maps and saving bus tickets for a scrapbook.

The Bennefits of the Beet Juice.

Every week with our gourmet breakfast Lily surprise us with a delicious beet juice!! When our guests see this unusual color when the juice arrives to the table they always hesitate to take their first sip… they love it!! If you like to try it come to Sueño del mar and we prepare one for you.

Below here you can find interesting information about this healthy vegetable.

Benefits of Beetroot Juice

Known for decades as a liver-protective food, beets may not be the newest kid on the super food block, but mounting research is showing why you should take another good look at this root vegetable in juiced form.
Many of our patients have mentioned that juicing beets will give them more energy for their day. Research is showing that this may be due to the ability of components in the juice to improve blood flow. Beetroot juice has been shown to help the body respond better to exercise, by balancing oxygen use and increasing stamina.
Beetroot juice is one of the richest dietary sources of antioxidants and naturally occurring nitrates. Nitrates are compounds which improve blood flow throughout the body – including the brain, heart, and muscles. These natural nitrates increase a molecule in the blood vessels called nitric oxide, which helps open up the vessels and allows more oxygen flow as well as lower blood pressure.
Beetroot juice may also be an important ally to lower blood pressure. Whether the yellow or red kind of beets, the juice provides excellent blood pressure-lowering ability. Meta-analysis (a quality study that reviewed many past studies) of 254 people between 2006 and 2012 showed clear reductions in blood pressure, with the systolic blood pressure (the number on top) showing the best reduction.

For Blood Pressure, Is It Better to Eat Beets or Drink the Juice?
In many cases, eating the whole food is the best way to get all the nutrients, fiber and healthy effect. But, in this particular case for blood pressure lowering, you are actually better off drinking the juiced beet root to get the maximum benefit. When you cook the beet or ferment a beet (like we find in a pickled beet), the amount of healthful nutrients for blood pressure benefits will decrease. By juicing, you are going to get 100% of the phytonutrients (plant chemicals) that help your blood pressure decrease.
How Much Juice Should I Take?
One to two cups of beetroot juice a day have been shown to have a significant effect for lowering blood pressure. Many doctors have been quite surprised by how little was needed to see a benefit for people with high blood pressure. You can juice the beets on your own, which is freshest and cost efficient, or you can spend about $7 for a prepared bottle at the health food store. Because beets are a potent detoxifier, some patients feel best when starting with a lower dose (like a quarter cup) and increase the amount over time.
Please note it is important to not change any prescription blood pressure medication without speaking to your prescribing doctor. Please let your doctor know you are using natural means to lower your blood pressure, which may result in requiring less medication.

Are There Any Side Effects to Drinking Beet Juice?
The dark carotenes of beet juice may give your urine and bowel movements a red color. This color change is harmless. Since beets are high in oxalates, people who tend to make oxalate kidney stones may want to avoid beet juice.
