Growing Bamboo in Costa Rica

 

We have been growing bamboo, a natural renewable resource, at Sueno del Mar since we opened 20 years ago...we have made this pretty tree a part of our decoration. And what is so nice is that it is something very easy to grow in our tropical climate. 

Bamboo is known as the plant of thousand uses. This wonderful and awesome plant is very versatile, flexible, and very strong. It is apt for being used in different areas such as construction, gardening, fishing, crafting, furniture, utensils. It can be used as food source and other types of uses.

Bamboo plantations make an important contribution to the environment, since it works as a healer. It gives benefits from short to long term periods of time. This characteristic makes it an excellent option for preserving hydrologic sources and at the same time it prevents and controls erosion.

As material for construction, it has very special characteristics because of its flexibility and lightness. Its hardness makes it number one to resist earthquakes. That is why some people say that "bamboo dances with the movement".  Besides that, this material is aesthetically agreeable. Due to that, the houses built with bamboo are attractive, economic, and they last for long time.
