One of our best tours for this month at
our Bed and Breakfast is the famous "arribada de Tortugas". The season runs from September through the end of January! The arribada only happens on certain days of the month when the moon and tides are just right. If you happen to be visiting us during one of these special days, we will be happy to arrange a tour for you! Your guide will pick you up at Sueno del Mar in
Playa Langosta and after an hour and a half drive you will arrive at Playa Ostional
to watch this wonderful event of nature.
The Ostional National Wildlife Refuge
(ONWR) encompasses 400 acres of land and 4,050 acres of ocean on the Nicoya
Peninsula. Ostional Beach is 7 kilometers long, with Punta India to the north and the Nosara River mouth to the south.
So what happens during this incredible act of mother nature? Thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles arrive at the beach to lay their eggs. At first only a few hundred
turtles arrive which is then followed by a steady stream of females for the next three to
seven days. The Olive
Ridley sea turtles are endangered and there are guides at Ostional to ensure the safety of the turtles.
