When staying at our beachfront bed & breakfast in Tamarindo, Costa Rica you may want avoid the bustle of town one day and take a short stroll down the street to our neighborhood lunch spot called Matty’s Deli Cafe. With a store front right across the street from the best surf break in Langosta, Matty’s boasts some of the freshest salads, yummiest sandwiches, and healthiest smoothies town has to offer. Our favorites on the menu so far? You’ll definitely want to try one of their amazing sandwiches like the Baller (their take on the meatball sub) or the Seared Ahi Wrap made with local tuna. If you’re in the mood for a salad, the Fluffy Quinoa salad will not disappoint and is as fresh as fresh can be! If you’re just stopping in for a drink or a snack, try one of the homemade cookies and a Blue Dream smoothie to go. If you want to check out another beach town while you’re visiting Tamarindo, Costa Rica you may want to hop down to Playa Avellanas for the day. Avellanas is a quiet little surf town home to one of our favorite little spots to grab lunch, a drink, and relax for the day- Lola's. Lola’s restaurant is the focal point of Avellanas and is located right on the pristine beach amidst nothing but palm trees and wilderness. Named after the pet pig, Lola, who was known for her sun bathing and wave wading, this hip little beach bar has become considerably more popular over the years, and there is a long list of reasons why. Along with one of the best surf breaks around that draws surfers from all around, the food at Lola’s is consistently amazing. With fresh salads, incredible nachos (with chips made in-house), flatbread pizzas, and the best fish and chips platter around, you definitely want to arrive to Lola’s hungry. And the best part about Lola’s is you are welcome to lounge around for the day and enjoy cold beers and cocktails, because you will definitely be wanting a snack after your time in the surf. Bring a towel, your board, and an appetite because you will want to spend the day at Lola’s!

If you’re looking for a fun and unique adventure during your stay in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, you will definitely be amazed by a visit to La Senda. La Senda is a property that sits only 20 minutes outside of town and is 74 acres consisting of partly tropical dry forest. Owners Griet and Ann welcome you to their property and give a small background chat about their property, all of the food produced on the property, and the construction of the labyrinth. The labyrinth on the property is the largest in the world and constructed completely out of cacti! After a short introduction you will be guided through the labyrinth and even led through a ten minute guided meditation. Following your tour of the labyrinth you will be welcomed to the dinner table out on the lawn under the stars where Griet and Ann will serve you a phenomenal three-course dinner focusing on food grown on their property. La Senda offers these dinners on Friday nights and reservations are required, but you can check out their Facebook page for more information on the week’s dinner theme.  We love welcoming guests from all over the world to experience the holiday season here at Sueño del Mar Bed & Breakfast in Tamarindo, Costa Rica! Antares Sailing Adventure Tour

ATV tours in Costa Rica!!

Costa Rica is the perfect destination for adventurous travelers, and here in Tamarindo, Costa Rica we have plenty of opportunities to explore! Along with being a famous spot for surfing, Tamarindo is also an ideal destination to check out the scenery while riding an ATV (all terrain vehicle). Set out with a guide to explore the beach, the rugged trails in the tropical forests, and the mountains in and around Tamarindo. An ATV tour is an exhilarating way to check out the area's scenery including several varieties of native trees such as teak and guanacaste trees. While you are admiring the trees from your ATV, be sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife! Howler and capuchin monkeys, several species of birds, and even armadillos may be seen along the way. Most ATV tours also take you on a trip through a Costa Rican town where you can encounter the local farms, markets, and friendly faces.

The ATV company will provide you with a guide for your group, helmets, refreshments, and even round trip transportation from our bed and breakfast. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes, as well as sunscreen and insect repellent. If you want to hop in the ocean on the beach portion of your ATV tour, we suggest wearing a swim suit under your clothes and bringing a towel.

Butterflies at Sueño del Mar

Our small country of Costa Rica is full of biodiversity, and along with a plethora of incredible flowers and plants, there is a huge assortment of butterflies floating around our forests and gardens. With over 3,000 species of butterflies and moths in this country, there is no shortage of these beautiful creatures here at our boutique bed & breakfast. Pottery from the town of Guaitil

When visiting our boutique bed & breakfast in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, you will probably want to purchase a locally-made souvenir to take back home. One of the oldest and most well-known souvenirs in the country you can purchase is a handmade piece of pottery from the town of Guaitil. Famous throughout Costa Rica, the tiny village located in Guanacaste in less than an hour away from Tamarindo. The people of Guaitil take great pride in their pre-Columbian Chorotega style pottery which is made using the same traditions and techniques of their ancestors. The entire village is dedicated to the production and trade of pottery, as the craft has been passed down from generations.

If you can take a visit to the village of Guaitil while you are in Costa Rica, you can find all sorts of different clay pottery including bowls, jars, vases, pitchers, animal figurines, and platters. The pottery is made by drying the clay first and then crushing it into a powder. Then the potters mix the clay powder with sand and water. Then the piece of pottery is formed, painted, and polished on a stone to make the piece shiny. Afterwards the pottery is allowed to dry and then put into a fire-burning oven.

Our Beachfront Gardens,

Here at Sueno del Mar Bed & Breakfast we take a lot of pride in our beautiful beachfront gardens. Along with several varieties of fruit trees, we also have some incredible tropical flowers. We use the flowers from our gardens to decorate our boutique hotel in many ways. Guests always find fresh flowers on their tables at breakfast in the mornings. We also decorate our honeymoon sweet with fresh flowers as an extra way to welcome newlyweds. There are also a variety of fresh flowers displayed in front of each room at our bed and breakfast.

Wildlife Tours in Costa Rica

If wildlife is what you are looking for on your Costa Rica vacation, you have come to the right place! There are Tamarindo Estuary Wildlife Tours every day, and these are a great way to see a variety of the animals that live among us here in Costa Rica. The best time for wildlife tours is in the morning when it's not too hot and the animals are out. You will board a small boat we call a panga with a knowledgable local who can tell you all about the mangroves.

What can you see on the wildlife tour? One thing for sure is the howler monkeys.

As you travel on down the estuary, be sure to keep a look out for the crocodiles!

Sunbathing on the river bank or even hanging out in the trees you will find all sizes of iguanas.

If you go in the morning you will definitely see all kinds of beautiful birds. One of our favorite birds seen nearby is the motmot.
