In our beach town of Tamarindo, Costa Rica we are lucky to have a very diverse expatriate community. Here at Sueño del Mar Bed & Breakfast we are very thankful for the incredible pizza of La Baula Pizzeria provided by some of our long-time Italian residents. With the crispy handmade crust and the freshest of ingredients for toppings, you will definitely find yourself wanting to go back for more! And don’t forget to try a sip of their in-house limoncello and homemade ice-cream after dinner. The setting for La Baula is extremely casual with wooden booths and picnic tables for even a large party of friends and family. Traveling with children? La Baula might be the most kid-friendly restaurant in town complete with hammock swings and a playground to keep the kiddos happy. Tropical Flowers

The antorcha flower (or golden torch flower) is one of our all-time favorites here at our beachfront bed & breakfast. Not only does it grow in our gardens, but it’s also the perfect splash of color in vases around our property. The antorcha is part of the heliconia family which makes it related to the banana or ginger plant. There are over 100 species of heliconia, but the golden torch shows smaller, thinner flower bracts with colors of reds and yellow. Sometimes this flower is even called a Parrot Beak flower.

The flower bracts of the Golden Torch flower are shaped like small boats ranging from all different colors from golden yellows to deep, dark reds. You can tell the resemblance to the bird’s of paradise blooms and ginger torch flowers. (The word antorcha is Spanish for torch.)

 

This bright flower means pride and sunshine because of it’s spectacular color and it’s height. The flowers can grow from 1-3 meters in height. We like to keep these blooms around our property not only for their beauty and color they add to the room, but also because they attract some of the most beautiful butterflies! Lili's Passion Fruit Juice...

Along with a three-course breakfast here at our beachfront bed & breakfast, we love offering a fresh fruit juice to accompany your meal! Every day is a different juice based on what is fresh, but one of the most loved juices is passionfruit juice. Passionfruit is a tropical fruit native to Costa Rica, which is why we get the freshest and yummiest passionfruits to prepare our fresh-squeezed juice in the mornings.

Not only is passionfruit juice delicious, it also has several health benefits! This fruit is full of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and fiber. The amount of fiber in this juice can hep lower cholesterol and help detox the body of unwanted toxins. Because passionfruit is full of Vitamin C, drinking this juice or eating this fruit can help boost your immune system as well as reduce any inflammation in the body. The vitamin A contained in this fruit promotes healthy skin and eyesight. Lastly, the potassium contained in this fruit helps regulate blood pressure and heat rate.

Sueno del Mar Sweet & Sovory Breakfast Options!

If you’re looking for sweet and savory breakfast options to start your morning, here at Sueño del Mar Bed & Breakfast we offer you both! When you first step onto our breakfast terrace we will greet you with a cup of Costa Rican coffee or herbal tea. Our very own in-house chef Lili will prepare your meal, starting you out with a plate of fresh tropical fruit. Here at Sueño del Mar we always have the freshest selection of local produce with an assortment of fruit usually including mango, banana, papaya, watermelon, and pineapple.

 

Following your first course of fresh fruit is usually the savory portion of our breakfast. Each morning is different, but one of our favorite savory dishes is a typical Costa Rican breakfast plate of fried eggs, gallo pinto (beans and rice dish), and fried plantains and cheese.  

Remember to save room for a third course of breakfast, as Lili likes to send out something sweet to complete the meal. The dessert portion of our breakfast is always homemade and fresh out of the oven and can include anything from cream cheese-stuffed french toast to warm fruit pastries. One of the yummy options is also a fresh banana pancake, which never disappoints!

ATV tours in Costa Rica!!

Costa Rica is the perfect destination for adventurous travelers, and here in Tamarindo, Costa Rica we have plenty of opportunities to explore! Along with being a famous spot for surfing, Tamarindo is also an ideal destination to check out the scenery while riding an ATV (all terrain vehicle). Set out with a guide to explore the beach, the rugged trails in the tropical forests, and the mountains in and around Tamarindo. An ATV tour is an exhilarating way to check out the area's scenery including several varieties of native trees such as teak and guanacaste trees. While you are admiring the trees from your ATV, be sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife! Howler and capuchin monkeys, several species of birds, and even armadillos may be seen along the way. Most ATV tours also take you on a trip through a Costa Rican town where you can encounter the local farms, markets, and friendly faces.

Here at our boutique bed and breakfast we will be happy to set up your ATV tour! Most tours last 2-3 hours and can be taken in the morning or the afternoon. The ATV company will provide you with a guide for your group, helmets, refreshments, and even round trip transportation from our bed and breakfast. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes, as well as sunscreen and insect repellent. If you want to hop in the ocean on the beach portion of your ATV tour, we suggest wearing a swim suit under your clothes and bringing a towel.

Tony & Nina's wedding week

 

February’s last week, with Nina and Tony’s friends and family, was quite the adventure at Sueño del Mar. 

Nina & Tony booked the entire hotel to celebrate their wedding. 40 people were down here for the event. They rented several properties along the same street as Sueño.  Literally turning the block into their own backyard.

Tropical Occasions wedding planners recommended our hotel so Nina and Tony could stay here with their family and closest friends.

It was really a fun week, very animated group. They went everywhere together not to miss any of the fun. As usual we recommended some tours and activities including sailing, fishing, etc. Surfing beat all other activities by a large margin. 

Surfers: Nina, Tony, Brian, Jonathan, Nick, Tori, and Bill.

Support staff: Joe, Debbie, Tim, Barb, Mark, Anne, Connie, Skip, Sue

 The meeting place was the famous Tamarindo River mouth. Time, 4PM. Nothing better than watching the sunset from your surfboard. Brian was the first one up, followed closely by Tori. By the end of the session and with the help of the instructor Maria, from Sisisi Transfers and Tours, everybody was up and riding. Family members and friends were having a blast at the beach, laughing with the falls and cheering the rides.

It was really a great group of people, we hope to have them down here sometime in the future.

Maria Jose from SiSiSi transfers and tours takes us to the famous Finca la Norma where Pura Aventura lets you enjoy a fantastic day full of adrenaline and fun.
