Independence Day in Costa Rica

Independence Day is held on September 15th in Costa Rica and is a national holiday of celebration and fiestas.  For 192 years now, we have been an independent country and take great pride in our national heritage and culture.

Today, there will be parades in towns throughout Costa Rica as well as performances by local school children, rodeos and fiestas.

But the celebration actually started last night at 6:00 p.m. as handmade lanterns were lit with candles and families walk through the streets singing the national anthem and carrying the lanterns.

Our Independence Day in Costa Rica is one that we look forward to celebrating with friends and family throughout the year and a day to remember that we are a democratic and peaceful country, full of pura vida!

You will feel right at home at our beachfront Bed and Breakfast located near Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
