Guanabana tropical fruit (Sour Sop)t: Cancer Killer!

Widely circulated message claims that sour sop, the fruit from the graviola tree, is a miraculous natural cancer killer that is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy.

In laboratory tests, graviola extract has been shown to kill certain types of liver and breast cancer cells that are resistant to particular chemotherapy drugs. One laboratory study also found that a compound isolated from sour sop seeds had 10,000 times the potency of one particular chemotherapy drug on colon adenocarcinoma cells. However, as yet, there have been no large scale tests on humans and there is no credible evidence to support claims that graviola is an effective cure or treatment for cancer. Moreover, graviola may have harmful side effects such as movement disorders and myeloneuropathy. Thus, while plant compounds in graviola may have properties that can kill cancer cells in vitro, claiming that sour sop is a "miracle unleashed" and a viable alternative to medical cancer treatments such as chemotherapy is highly misleading and potentially very dangerous

At our Langosta Bed and Breakfast, we serve guanabana juice at least two times per week.  Lily and Victor make the most exquisite fresh juices.  Nothing better than this fruit to start your day!

Did you know? We have no army in Costa Rica!

The Costa Rican army was abolished on December 1, 1948 by President José Figueres Ferrer after a successful victory during the Costa Rican Civil War. While this may seem like it would pose a serious threat for the country, there are several benefits to this decision. Ferrer became revered after this decision and Costa Rica had soon become considered a civilized nation as opposed to those that still maintain their military. By abolishing the military, they were "forced" to find alternative methods in handling the various threats that any country would face, which ended up providing a new twist on safety and accountability throughout our country.

There are various Latin countries that may face the trouble of military takeovers. By abolishing the military, Costa Ricans have found a peaceful balance when dealing with political issues. This has helped build and maintain our population far better than those from many in the world would expect. We have national health care and on average have a longer life expectancy. Much of the past military money is also diverted to education and therefore our children receive better quality education and better opportunities.

These changes promote peace, understanding, and a somewhat carefree demeanor amongst the general Costa Rican population. The natural beauty of the country remains, as well. These factors are what make us the perfect Latin America country to visit on vacation! While other Latin countries may have dangers that lurk outside of their resort beaches, exploring outside of the box is not a potential threat in Costa Rica since most residents are happy to embrace tourists with open arms! Visit us in Costa Rica on your next vacation and truly be inspired!
